FOUNDER
Kusumagiri Mental Health Centre was founded in 1971 by the Congregation of the Medical Sisters of St. Joseph (MSJ), Nirmala Province, Ernakulam. It is one of the pioneering institutions for mental health care in the nongovernmental voluntary sector in Kerala. The vision and farsightedness of “Servant of God” Joseph C. Panjikaran, the founder of M S J, was the inspiration and motivation behind this noble endeavor. The centre named after the heavenly Patroness of St. Teresa of Lisieux . The centre made its humble beginning with one psychiatrist, three nurses, one pharmacist and one laboratory technician. At present the hospital provides inpatient facility for 125 adults, 15 child and adolescents. A committed and enthusiastic team of doctors, psychologists, psychiatric social workers, psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists, speech therapists, special educators etc. make this institution a unique experience for the patients and their relatives. Kusumagiri Mental Health Centre (KMHC), located in the city of Cochin, Kerala, South India is providing world class mental health services and personalized treatment and care including clinical consultation and assessment, mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention, resource development and education & training.. KMHC focuses on mental health issues and applies a holistic approach, Involving work with individuals, families, and society as a whole.
